Just by signing up with the Citation Index, the Libraries will begin trying to match the citations we know about with DOIs. A DOI is a persistent identifier used for a work.
DOIs are so useful because they are the key to lots of other information about a work. For instance Crossref has metadata on works which increasingly includes funder identifiers. We can also use services like Unpaywall to determine whether there are open access copies available to make it quicker and easier for users to get access to your work.
As we continue to develop the Citation Index service we will be looking for how we can leverage DOIs to pull in more useful information about your works.
